About the video: The East Coast Surfer has a way of holding those rare, epic days close to the heart. Special sessions become the cornerstones of existence and fabled tales of greatness amongst peers. Those moments are forever engraved into the minds eye. Surfing’s spiritual side is a separate portal into the appreciation for the aesthetic of it. And for New Jersey filmmaker Bob Gilanyi, that unique aesthetic deserves a closer glimpse. Through the looking glass focuses on three areas of the Eastern Seaboard: Nova Scotia, New Jersey, and North Carolina- all of which are rich in History and Beautiful Scenery. Sam Hammer, Ryan Kimmel, Matt Keenan, Jeff Myers, Billy Hume, Keith Noonan, Mike, Guarino, Shane Upchurch, and several other Eastside staples join up with west coast heavy hitters Benji Weatherly, Saxon Boucher, Greg Browning, and Mike Losness to form a dynamic cast of distinctly individual expressionists. The surfers’ different backgrounds brought together on screen define what it means to be a surfer, no matter what your coastal persuasion, while revealing the bond that connects us all.
